Publications and Media Showcase

The Publications and Media Showcase is designed to embody the NODA spirit of sharing ideas and recognizes the outstanding work of orientation professionals for the mutual benefit of all Association members. The Showcase creates an opportunity to recognize, highlight and exhibit outstanding achievement and professional accomplishment in publication and marketing efforts.

The deadline for submission of materials for the Boston NODAC Publications and Media Showcase has been extended to Friday September 26. Please be sure to email Jeanne Horrigan with the details by 9/26. Your completed entry form and samples must be postmarked by the deadline in order to be considered.

Institutions interested in submitting entries for consideration should review the following:

Outstanding Showcase items (may not be selected for all categories):

Following a review of all entries, up to two outstanding showcase items will be selected in each of three categories:

  • Colleges with 5,000 or fewer students
  • Colleges with 5,001-14,999 students
  • Colleges with 15,000 or more students

Submission guidelines

  • Institutions may submit entries in a maximum of three categories.
  • Institutions must submit one Media Showcase entry form along with two copies of each entry item.
  • Entries must be postmarked by Friday, September 19, 2008.
  • If the judges feel that an item has been entered inappropriately, they may transfer the entry to the appropriate category.
  • Only those items that have been specifically designed and produced by the institution for their institution’s orientation, retention and transition programs will be considered.
  • All institutions entering the Showcase must have at least one person who is a NODA member.
  • Due to the large number of participants, items entered in the Showcase will not be returned.

Display at conference

  • The top two Outstanding Showcase items and award certificates will be displayed during the conference.
  • The institutions awarded will also appear in the conference slide show presentation that will play prior to the beginning of some conference sessions.
  • The institutions awarded are expected to pick up all displayed items and certificates by Sunday evening. Items not claimed by the end of the conference will not be forwarded.

Judging criteria

  • Content — Is the purpose of the publication or media clear? Is the topic covered comprehensively?
  • Use of theme — Is there a consistent message communicated throughout? Is the theme relevant to the mission of the orientation program? Does the theme foster enthusiasm and motivation?
  • Style and clarity of presentation model — Is the writing or visual style appropriate and interesting for the intended audience? Does the style used motivate the audience to read the publication or watch the presentation? Is it clear and easy to follow?
  • Graphic design — Is the layout attractive? Does the design use color or photography effectively? Is the logo eye-catching? Is the logo incorporated effectively into the overall design?
  • Practicality and usefulness — Does the publication or non-print media meet a defined need? Is it user friendly?
  • Cost — What was the total cost of non-print media, or the publication per item?
